For Melbourne songwriter Ali Barter, 2016 has begun with a bang and a roar, with a ripping new single pointing the way to a new attitude to recording, if not a whole new sound. ‘Far Away’ vaulted forth following writing and recording sessions in LA with writer and producer Harlan Silverman. But it’s a very different Barter and a very different sound to the one many expected. The languid and nostalgic pop of previous releases, which most recent single ‘Hypercolour’ marked the departure from, is replaced by rock ‘n’ roll’s gold standard… the quiet verse and massive chorus. It’ s got guitar feedback, screaming riffs, chorused vocals and sounds like someone who’ s getting something out of their system. Ali Barter’ s got a new groove and it was never where she’ d thought it would be.
